Victorian Senior Non-commissioned Officer’s Home Service Pattern, 16th Lanarkshire Rifle Volunteers Green Cloth Helmet.
A fine and very rare, short lived example of a 16th Lanarkshire rifle volunteers green cloth helmet, probably belonging to a Regimental Sergeant Major or Regimental Quartermaster Sergeant. The dark green four panelled Melton cloth covered skull is complete with all its white metal fittings of officer’s pattern and quality. The spike and helmet plate being the only two items of other ranks pattern. The 16th Lanarkshire rifle volunteers green cloth helmet plate is of the standard eight pointed star, the top most point, displaced by a Victoria crown, a central strap carries the regimental name “16th Lanarkshire R.V” and to the centre is a strung bugle. The interior is fitted with a light beige roan leather sweatband and attached crimson silk liner and dark green under peak lining. This really is an outstanding example of a 16th Lanarkshire rifle volunteers green cloth helmet. Housed in its original japanned carrying tin.
