Royal Regiment of Irish Artillery

A very rare Royal Regiment of Irish Artillery Officers Button. Approx 24mm in Diameter.
A Royal Crown surmounting a Maid of Erin Harp, this above an old style cannon. There are two raised round dimples on each side of the crown, representing cannon balls. The high relief pattern is set within a sunken Norman Shield that has a lined field. This die variant has the perimeter dots which completely encompasses the inside of the shield's edged border.
This is a one piece button with a Loop Shank.
The photo’s really do not do this button justice.
c1785-1801

This Artillery Unit was originally raised in Dublin Ireland in 1756, and was mostly comprised of various Royal Artillery Detachments.
There are some records that show there was a small detachment from this regiment that served with Burgoyne's expedition in 1777 but for the most part, this regiment mostly served in the West Indies in the 1790's.
They officially disbanded in 1801.
